‘Diana, the Musical’ to Finish Broadway Run on Dec. 19

‘Diana, the Musical’ to End Broadway Run on Dec. 19

After surviving the pandemic, which compelled its closure after 9 preview performances, and a extensively panned filmed model for Netflix, “Diana, the Musical” introduced on Friday that it could finish its Broadway run on Dec. 19. It initially had an open run.

“We’re terribly happy with the ‘Diana’ firm and of the present onstage on the Longacre,” the producers, Beth Williams of Grove Leisure, Frank Marshall and the Araca Group, mentioned on Friday in a joint assertion. “Our heartfelt thanks exit to the forged, crew and everybody concerned in creating the present. And to the audiences who’ve proven their love and assist at each efficiency.”

The present, which is in regards to the ill-fated marriage of the Princess of Wales to Prince Charles, started previews on Nov. 2 on the Longacre Theater, and opened on Nov. 17. On the time of its closing, it can have performed 33 performances and 16 previews.

The opinions for the musical had been largely unfavourable. In his assessment for The New York Occasions, Jesse Inexperienced wrote, “When you care about Diana as a human being, or dignity as an idea, you can see this therapy of her life each aesthetically and morally mortifying.”

The present, which had a pre-Broadway production at La Jolla Playhouse, featured Jeanna de Waal within the title function and Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles. It was directed by Christopher Ashley, choreographed by Kelly Devine, and written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan (the Bon Jovi keyboardist), who created the Tony Award-winning musical “Memphis.”
