4,000 tourists stranded on St Martin’s island

Around 4,000 tourists are stranded on St Martin’s island following the suspension of passenger vessel movement between the island and Cox’s Bazar district due to rough weather.

Additional District Magistrate Abu Sufian said the district administration suspended movement of passenger vessels on Cox’s Bazar-St Martin’s island for a day since last night after signal 3 was issued for Cox’s Bazar maritime port.

The hotel authorities have also been asked to give 50 percent off on the rent, he said.

The vessel movement will resume once the weather improves, Sufian added.
Mujibur Rahman, chairman of St. Martin’s Union Parishad, said that about 4,000 tourists were stranded due to the sudden suspension of vessel movement.

However, some tourists are likely to leave the island on their own initiative.
