Indian national detained in Lalmonirhat for illegally entering Bangladesh

An Indian national, who had entered Bangladesh illegally, has been detained in Lalmonirhat.

Locals apprehended the man from Mission Intersection area in the town over “suspicious behaviour” and handed him over to Lalmonirhat Sadar police last night, reports our correspondent quoting Nawshed Ali, a local.

During interrogation, the arrestee said his name is Quader Fakir (50) and admitted that he entered Bangladesh illegally from India around two months ago, said Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.

Initially, Fakir took shelter in the house of one of his relatives in Rangpur. Later, he started begging in nearby districts, the OC said, quoting the Indian national.

The information provided by the detainee about himself was being verified, the OC also said, adding that Indian police were being contacted in this regard.
