Over 200 illegal establishments demolished in Munshiganj’s Rikabibazar canal

Local administration today demolished more than 200 illegal establishments in an eviction drive to free the Rikabibazar canal from grabbers during Munshiganj’s Sadar upazila.

Tin-shed shops and houses were demolished in the drive in Purbapara area of Mirkadim municipality, said Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Hashib Sarker, who led the drive, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

“The eviction drive will continue for three days. On the first day, more than 200 establishments were demolished,” the UNO told our Munshiganj correspondent.

Earlier, the upazila administration had directed the occupiers to remove the illegal installations by February 9, he said.

After recovering the canal site, a walkway will be constructed there to save the canal from re-occupation, said the UNO
