Rape of O-level Student: Charges framed against accused

A Dhaka tribunal yesterday framed charges against Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, lone accused in the case filed over rape and murder of an O-level student at Dhaka’s Kalabagan in January last year.

Dihan, now in jail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice, after Judge (in-charge) AM Zulfikar Hayat of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka read out the charges to him, court sources said.

The tribunal fixed March 16 for starting the case’s trial.

The victim’s father on January 7 last year filed the case with Kalabagan Police Station against Fardin.

According to the case statement, Fardin manipulated the girl into going to his flat and raped her when his family members were away.

At one stage, the victim bled profusely and fell unconscious. Fardin then took her to a hospital to deflect blame, the complainant alleged.

On January 8 of the same year, he gave his confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
