‘Star Wars’: Lars Mikkelsen To Play Live-Action Thrawn In ‘Ahsoka’
Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen is set to reprise his role as the iconic villain Thrawn in the upcoming live-action Ahsoka Tano series starring Rosario Dawson. The casting was officially announced during this year’s Star Wars Celebration in London.
An alien military strategist and tactician from the planet Csilla, Thrawn was first introduced in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire. He quickly became a fan-favorite character and his popularity only grew with subsequent appearances in novels, comic books and animated series like Star Wars Rebels.
Lars Mikkelsen previously voiced Thrawn in Rebels and his performance was widely praised by fans and critics alike. Now, Mikkelsen will bring the Star Wars character to life in live-action for the first time.
During the Ahsoka panel at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm also revealed the full list of directors behind the series. Dave Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel and Rick Famuyiwa are all directing episodes of Ahsoka.
Ahsoka is a spin-off from the popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, which followed the adventures of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka quickly became a fan favorite, and her character has since been featured in other Star Wars projects, including the animated series Star Wars Rebels and live-action appearances in the second season of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
The Ahsoka Tano series is being developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The latter co-created Ahsoka alongside George Lucas, with the heroine making her first apppearance in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The cast of the Ahsoka Tano series includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader. Ivanna Sakhno and Ray Stevenson round out the cast.
